The latter is compatible with all Canon EOS cameras released since 2012 and offers a greater range of functionality. There are two current versions of EOS Utility: version 2 and version 3. This is particularly useful if you want to keep some distance between you and your subject (like wildlife, for example) or you’re working in a studio where you want to check the images on a larger screen to ensure the results are as expected. One of the most common reasons for using EOS Utility is to control your camera remotely. With it, you can add extra Picture Style presets to your camera, either ones that you donwload from Canon or ones that you have created yourself.
It also interfaces with another of Canon’s programs, Picture Style Editor. EOS Utility also integrates with Digital Photo Professional, Canon’s RAW conversion software.
You can transfer all images at once or select individual images to transfer. When using EOS Utility for image transfer and remote shooting, the wired connection is also much faster than Wi-Fi.ĮOS Utility makes it easy to transfer images from your EOS camera to your computer. Working this way (connected via USB) is often referred to as ‘tethered shooting’. The wired connection via USB is the most reliable and easiest to set up. You can connect your EOS camera to your computer using either a USB cable, via Wi-Fi (if your camera includes it), or via a separate Wireless File Transmitter.
